Chief Election Commissioner of India, Shri Gyanesh Kumar, has emphasized India’s long-term partnership in election management and democratic cooperation at the Stockholm Conference, organized by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance. The conference brought together over 100 delegates from around 50 countries to discuss pressing issues in election management.

Global Collaboration for Election Integrity

During the conference, Shri Kumar interacted with Chief Election Commissioners from various countries, including the United Kingdom, South Africa, Indonesia, Mexico, and others. The discussions focused on addressing challenges such as misinformation, digital disruption, election security, climate risks, and the role of artificial intelligence in elections.

Engaging with NRIs

In addition to the conference, Shri Kumar met with Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) living in Sweden, highlighting the importance of their vote in India’s democratic process. He informed them about the arrangements made by the Election Commission of India to facilitate NRI voters during Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

Empowering Voters

Shri Kumar emphasized that voters are the root of democracy, and every voter must exercise their right to vote to strengthen democracy. He noted that the Election Commission is merely a medium to complete the election process, and the real strength lies with the voters.

India’s Leadership in Election Management

The Chief Election Commissioner highlighted India’s leadership in election management, showcasing the country’s expertise in conducting free and fair elections. The Stockholm Conference provided a platform for India to share its experiences and best practices with other countries, further solidifying its position as a global leader in democratic cooperation.
