In response to the devastation caused by the recent cloudburst and flash floods in Uttarkashi’s Dharali village, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an aerial survey of the affected region and reviewed the ongoing rescue operations. Describing the situation as “challenging,” CM Dhami assured that the state government is fully committed to rescuing and rehabilitating every individual affected by the disaster.
Speaking to media after the survey, the Chief Minister revealed that a total of 160 police personnel, including 10 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and 3 Superintendents of Police (SPs), have been deployed to manage rescue and relief efforts on the ground. Despite heavy rainfall and difficult terrain, various agencies including the Indian Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have reached the area and are working tirelessly to locate and evacuate stranded villagers.
Dhami confirmed that helicopters of the Indian Army, including MI-17 and Chinook models, are on standby. “As soon as weather conditions improve, aerial rescue operations will be launched to reach remote and inaccessible spots,” he said. Over 70 to 80 individuals have already been rescued from the worst-hit zones, and a blocked road leading to Dharali is being cleared to allow further aid and movement of rescue teams. A District Magistrate and an SP-level officer are en route to the village to assess and coordinate ground operations.
Currently, mobile networks in Dharali remain non-functional, adding to the communication challenges. Meanwhile, food packets, medical supplies, and a dedicated team of doctors have been readied to ensure no delay in relief delivery. The government is also actively working to restore electricity to affected areas.
The Chief Minister’s Office has appointed three nodal officers to oversee ration disbursement and monitor rescue logistics in real-time. “Every life matters to us,” Dhami said, reinforcing his government’s commitment to ensure the safety and recovery of every citizen impacted by this natural disaster.
