The ambitious project aims to make Punjab the first state in North India to achieve round-the-clock, free electricity supply within the next year.

The ambitious project aims to make Punjab the first state in North India to achieve round-the-clock, free electricity supply within the next year.
Under this large-scale modernization drive, the state will install 25,000 kilometers of new power cables, 8,000 new transformers, 77 modern substations, and overhaul 200 existing substations to upgrade the state’s power infrastructure. The entire system will be integrated with the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system, enabling real-time control and monitoring from a central command room — ensuring stability, efficiency, and transparency across the grid.
Speaking at the ceremony, Arvind Kejriwal emphasized that the project marks a new era of reliable and affordable energy for every household, farmer, and industrial unit in Punjab. “There is no shortage of electricity in Punjab. The problem lies in the outdated transmission and distribution network which was neglected for decades. With this project, we are rebuilding the system from the ground up,” Kejriwal said.
He announced that by next summer, Punjab will witness zero power cuts, a milestone that few states in India have achieved. “In just four months of forming the government, we made electricity free for 90% of Punjab’s households. Now, we are ensuring it reaches everyone, 24 hours a day,” he added.
Kejriwal also pointed out that farmers are no longer forced to irrigate their fields at night, and industries are now getting power at one of the lowest tariffs in the country — ranking Punjab as the fourth-cheapest electricity provider for the industrial sector in India.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, echoing Kejriwal’s vision, said that the initiative would not only provide uninterrupted power but also boost Punjab’s economy by attracting more industries and investments. “With reliable power and modern infrastructure, Punjab’s progress will accelerate. Every home, every farm, every factory will be empowered,” Mann stated.
The Delhi Chief Minister also extended greetings on the auspicious occasion of Shri Guru Ramdas Ji’s Prakash Parv, highlighting the significance of launching such a transformative project on a spiritually meaningful day for Punjab.
During the event, Kejriwal also expressed deep appreciation for Rajya Sabha MP and LPU Chancellor Dr. Ashok Mittal, who had recently announced that families who lost their loved ones during the devastating floods in Punjab would receive employment opportunities at the university. “Governments make such promises, but for an individual to take such responsibility on a personal level is truly commendable,” Kejriwal remarked.
This historic project comes as a significant step toward making Punjab a self-reliant power state — one that delivers on AAP’s core promise of accessible, affordable, and uninterrupted electricity for all.
Once completed, the ₹16,000-crore network will place Punjab among India’s top-performing states in energy efficiency, serving as a model for modern, sustainable power governance.
