In a significant political development, Laljit Singh Bhullar stepped down from the Punjab Cabinet on Saturday after Bhagwant Mann asked him to resign in the wake of a controversial suicide case involving an official of the state warehousing corporation in Amritsar.

Bhullar, who represents the Patti constituency in Tarn Taran district, tendered his resignation following directions from the Chief Minister, who emphasized the need for a transparent and unbiased investigation into the matter. The decision comes amid mounting political attention around the circumstances leading to the death of the official, which has triggered serious allegations and public concern.

According to the information available, the deceased official was associated with the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation and was posted in Amritsar. His death by suicide has raised questions regarding alleged pressure and administrative issues, though the exact reasons are yet to be officially established.

Reacting to the development, Bhullar categorically denied all allegations leveled against him, terming them as baseless and unfounded. He maintained that he has no role in the incident and expressed confidence that the truth will emerge once a thorough inquiry is completed.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, while confirming the resignation, stated that the move was necessary to uphold the principles of accountability and ensure that the investigation proceeds without any influence. He clarified that seeking Bhullar’s resignation does not imply guilt but is a step aimed at maintaining fairness and transparency in the probe process.

Mann further informed that he has directed the Chief Secretary of Punjab to initiate a detailed inquiry into the incident. The probe will examine all aspects surrounding the suicide, including any administrative or personal factors that may have contributed to the tragic outcome.

The Chief Minister reiterated that his government remains committed to clean governance and will not hesitate to take strict action if any wrongdoing is established. He also assured that justice will be ensured for the deceased official and his family.

The incident has also sparked political reactions across the state, with opposition parties demanding accountability and a time-bound investigation. The case is expected to remain under close scrutiny as the inquiry progresses and more details come to light.

Bhullar’s resignation marks a crucial step in the unfolding developments, reflecting the government’s attempt to balance political responsibility with due process as it navigates a sensitive and high-profile case.
