After Pahalgam Terror Attack, India Awaits a Defining Response from the Modi Government

In the aftermath of the brutal terrorist attack at Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians, a deafening silence hangs over New Delhi’s political corridors. The absence of an immediate, firm response from the Modi-led central government has baffled many across the nation. Political circles, citizens, and observers alike are wondering: Is a massive, decisive action in the making, or will this too be yet another tragic tale in the long history of cross-border terrorism where the perpetrators kill innocents and flee, leaving only mourning families behind?

Over the years, incidents of targeted violence against Hindus, particularly in states like West Bengal, have shaken the nation’s conscience. Yet, many feel that the Centre’s response has lacked the urgency and decisiveness that citizens expected. The recent unrest in Bengal, sparked by the amendment to the Waqf Act, saw disturbing scenes where Hindus were attacked, their homes torched, and lives shattered. Hopes were high that the central leadership would step in firmly to protect its citizens, but as of now, no major action has been taken.

What adds to the growing unease is the serious allegation made by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She accused the BSF, a central armed force, of aiding in violence, claiming that miscreants from across the border were brought into Bengal and later sent back. Such a grave accusation targeting India’s federal structure and national security forces should have triggered an immediate and stern reaction. Yet, silence prevails. The Waqf Act amendments have landed in the Supreme Court, protests have turned violent, and Hindu citizens have continued to suffer—but decisive central intervention is still awaited.

This leaves a looming question: when will the Modi government act with the decisiveness that it promised during its campaigns? This is Prime Minister Modi’s third term, a rare political achievement, but it also comes with greater responsibility. This term could be the defining period of his political career—the moment when history could remember him not just as a strong speaker, but as a leader who made courageous decisions for the nation’s safety and unity.

In the current climate, expectations are high. People look towards the Prime Minister for not just reassurance but for real action. The wounds inflicted in Pahalgam are fresh, and the broader unease in places like Bengal demands an urgent, authoritative response. If the Modi government wants to reaffirm its image as the protector of the nation, it must rise to the occasion now. This is the moment to prove that India will not tolerate terror, chaos, and lawlessness within its borders.

The silence from Delhi cannot be eternal. Either a bold, historic move is being quietly planned, or another opportunity will slip through, leaving the people disillusioned. Prime Minister Modi has the chance to be remembered as the lion who roared when India needed him the most—or risk being remembered as another leader who spoke eloquently but acted too late.

The nation watches, waits, and hopes. What Prime Minister Modi does now will not just define his third term, but will also leave an indelible mark on the future generations who will either remember him as a leader who safeguarded India’s dignity—or as someone who let moments of crisis pass with words alone.
