Amritsar — In a decisive and high-impact operation under the state’s ongoing anti-narcotics drive ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’, Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled two distinct cross-border drug smuggling networks, arresting three individuals and recovering 1.01 kilograms of heroin, ₹45.19 lakh in illicit drug proceeds, and a high-speed cash-counting machine. The crackdown, conducted under the leadership of Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav and Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, marks another strategic win in Punjab’s war on narcotics.

The arrested individuals—Rahul Singh alias Kalu (20) from Tarn Taran, Gurmukh Singh (21), and Varinderpal Singh (32), both residents of Amritsar—are believed to be key players in a larger smuggling nexus with possible international links. DGP Gaurav Yadav confirmed that two separate FIRs under the stringent NDPS Act have been registered at Gate Hakima and Verka police stations. He emphasized that a detailed probe is underway to expose both forward and backward linkages of the smuggling network, hinting that this operation could unearth more players operating in the shadows.

Commissioner Gurpreet Bhullar revealed further details of the operation. In the first bust, the CIA-2 team apprehended Rahul Singh from his rented house in Anand Vihar, Amritsar, recovering 510 grams of heroin, ₹30.18 lakh in drug money, and a currency counting machine. Initial interrogation suggests that Rahul was actively in contact with a foreign-based drug smuggler identified as “Tony German.” He allegedly received consignments from across the Indo-Pak border and distributed heroin in local circuits under Tony’s directions. Police have registered FIR No. 117 dated May 16, 2025, under Sections 21-C and 25 of the NDPS Act at Gate Hakima police station.

In a parallel operation, officers from Verka Police Station arrested Gurmukh Singh and Varinderpal Singh. The duo was caught with 500 grams of heroin, ₹15.19 lakh in cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales, and a drone—designed as a toy and fitted with a hidden camera. According to CP Bhullar, the two had even constructed a concealed locker inside a bed-box at a residence in village Akalgarh Dhaphian to stash the illicit funds. The drone is suspected to have been used for training and reconnaissance purposes, potentially to assist in cross-border delivery or monitoring. FIR No. 40 dated May 14, 2025, under Sections 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act, has been registered in this regard.

Authorities are not ruling out further arrests in the coming days. DGP Yadav stated that the police remain on high alert and committed to dismantling the complete drug distribution architecture in Punjab. He praised the role of ground-level intelligence and coordinated operations in delivering this breakthrough and reiterated the state’s zero-tolerance approach toward narco-terrorism and organized drug trafficking.

This latest development reaffirms Punjab Police’s aggressive and systematic efforts to tackle narcotics under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ has already seen several high-profile arrests and large-scale drug recoveries. With strategic enforcement actions like these, Punjab is steadily closing in on the drug networks that have long haunted the state.
