In a move aimed at prioritizing local talent and addressing long-standing concerns about employment opportunities for its own residents, the Chandigarh State Cooperative Bank Limited has announced a significant and impactful job quota system. The bank’s board of directors has officially approved a policy reserving a substantial 85% of all recruitment positions, encompassing regular, contract-based, and even outsourced roles, specifically for local residents of Chandigarh. Adding a further layer of local empowerment, a dedicated 15% within this overall quota will be set aside exclusively for natives of the Union Territory’s villages, ensuring direct benefits for the rural population within Chandigarh’s administrative boundaries. This landmark decision by the Chandigarh State Cooperative Bank stems from a recognition that despite Chandigarh serving as the joint capital of both Punjab and Haryana, its own youth have often felt overlooked in the competitive job market, as the city is administered as a separate entity. The new policy seeks to rectify this perceived imbalance, ensuring that candidates from Chandigarh are adequately represented in the bank’s workforce. For the remaining 15% of posts, preference will be given to candidates from other states, including Punjab and Haryana, ensuring that while local interests are prioritized, opportunities for talent from the broader region are not entirely excluded. Beyond the recruitment policy, the board of directors’ recent meeting also saw the approval of the bank’s loan policy and a crucial sanction for the upgrade of its Sector-22 branch, signaling a broader commitment to enhancing customer service and operational capacity. This proactive measure by the Chandigarh State Cooperative Bank is poised to generate significant goodwill among the local populace, particularly among the youth who have been seeking better employment prospects within their home city. It sets a precedent for other institutions in Chandigarh to consider similar localization efforts in their recruitment strategies, reflecting a growing emphasis on empowering and providing opportunities for the city’s own residents, fostering a sense of ownership and belonging within its workforce.
