Karnal :Haryana Chief Minister **Naib Singh Saini** on Sunday emphasized the state’s commitment to the **Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban)** while participating as the chief guest at the **Clean City Pairing – MoU signing ceremony** held at the District Secretariat Auditorium in Karnal.
Under this initiative, the **Karnal Municipal Corporation**, which recently secured **third place nationally in the Swachh Survekshan rankings**, signed MoUs with five municipal bodies—**Siwan and Rajound (Kaithal), Ismailabad (Kurukshetra), Narnaund (Hisar), and Kalawali (Sirsa)**—to mentor them in achieving higher cleanliness standards.
Union Minister for Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs **Manohar Lal** also joined the event via video conferencing from Sonipat, connecting with municipal bodies across the country and highlighting the importance of the **Clean City Pairing model**.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Saini said,
> “Karnal will now guide these five towns to adopt the right practices for sanitation and greenery. The objective is to ensure that every city and town in Haryana becomes **clean, beautiful, and environmentally sustainable**.”
Swachhata Competition Among Haryana Cities
The Chief Minister announced that a statewide cleanliness competition will soon be launched among cities. Rankings will be assigned based on defined parameters, and consistent efforts in urban sanitation will be monitored to align with **Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a cleaner, greener India.
Collective Responsibility Towards a Cleaner Future
Addressing the media, CM Saini said that cities excelling in cleanliness have now “adopted” five other cities each to mentor them. Alongside Karnal, **Sonipat**—another top performer in the survey—has taken **Hodal, Narnaul, Pataudi Mandi, Farrukhnagar, and Kundli** under its guidance.
“Cleanliness not only enhances our surroundings but also protects citizens from diseases. It is our **collective responsibility** to make the Swachh Bharat campaign a grand success under the able leadership of Prime Minister Modi,” he added.
