In a significant outreach to the pastoral Gaddi community and a broader push for regional development, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu reinforced his government’s commitment to inclusive growth and tribal welfare during his visit to Dharamshala and Nagrota Bagwan in Kangra district. Amid warm receptions and public gatherings, the Chief Minister announced plans to increase the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wool in the upcoming State Budget while also dedicating and launching development projects totaling ₹36 crore.

Addressing a gathering at Dharamshala where he was welcomed by Himachal Pradesh State Wool Federation Chairman Manoj Kumar and a large group of supporters, CM Sukhu said the government was actively considering amending the state’s relief manual to provide enhanced compensation for losses incurred by goat and sheep rearers. He emphasized that the traditional ‘Land Grazing Rights’ of the Gaddi community would be protected, directing the Forest Department to refrain from any interference in their customary access to pastures. The Chief Minister assured the community that their role in preserving ecological balance and their cultural heritage would be honoured through tangible policy measures.

Manoj Kumar, Chairman of the State Wool Federation, expressed gratitude for the government’s proactive approach, stating that CM Sukhu had consistently placed the concerns of the Gaddi community on high priority. He acknowledged the efforts to bring dignity and financial security to the wool-producing population, calling the proposed increase in wool MSP a long-awaited measure of justice for a community often overlooked in mainstream economic policies.

On the same day, the Chief Minister extended the developmental thrust by inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for a series of infrastructure projects worth ₹36 crore in the Nagrota Bagwan Assembly constituency. Among the inaugurated works was a state-of-the-art fire station building constructed at a cost of ₹3.10 crore. New roadworks and bridges designed to improve rural connectivity, including a ₹3.47 crore bridge over the Dharu Khad linking Kalad to Karali da Bagh village, were also unveiled. CM Sukhu also initiated projects to strengthen local power infrastructure and improve transportation, setting the groundwork for sustained economic activity in the region.

The event witnessed participation from several key political figures including Ayush Minister Yadvinder Goma, Chairman of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation RS Bali, MLAs Sanjay Awasthi and Kamlesh Thakur, and HRTC Vice Chairman Ajay Verma, reflecting strong political backing for the CM’s developmental roadmap.

With this dual focus on preserving tribal rights and accelerating rural development, the Chief Minister’s visit marked a strategic blend of welfare and governance. The announcement regarding the wool MSP is expected to bolster the state’s rural economy, while the infrastructure investments align with the government’s promise to ensure equitable growth across all districts. As Himachal Pradesh braces for the upcoming budget session, these announcements hint at a policy direction that places social equity and regional empowerment at its core.
