The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign to ensure that every eligible Indian citizen’s name is correctly included in the voter list and that inaccurate or duplicate entries are removed.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has announced that the voter list will be “frozen” at midnight today, and all further updates will be based on this version. If a voter’s name appeared in the 2003 electoral list, no additional documents will be needed for verification. Similarly, if a voter’s parents’ names appeared in that list, no extra proof will be required. However, anyone missing from the list or with incorrect details will need to fill the form and submit the necessary documents for correction.
The CEC highlighted the success of the SIR process in Bihar, where 7.5 crore voters actively participated, supported by 90,000 BLOs and 1.6 lakh agents from 12 political parties. The same level of accuracy and participation will now be implemented in other states.
Voters can also visit voters.eci.gov.in to check their old records and ensure that their names and details are correct. The ECI wants to make sure that only genuine and eligible voters are included in the rolls — a crucial step to uphold the integrity of Indian democracy.
Each polling station will have a designated BLO responsible for verifying around 1,000 voters. They will deliver the Enumeration Forms and collect verified data. If any errors or missing names are found, the correction process will begin immediately.
The SIR process timeline is as follows:
- 28 October to 3 November 2025: Printing of forms and BLO training
- 4 November to 4 December 2025: House-to-house verification by BLOs
- 9 December 2025: Publication of the Draft Voter List
- 9 December 2025 to 8 January 2026: Period for claims and objections
- 9 December 2025 to 31 January 2026: Hearing and verification phase
- 7 February 2026: Final Voter List publication
According to the CEC, the purity of the voter list is the foundation of democracy, and the SIR campaign is a vital part of maintaining transparency and fairness in elections. Between 1951 and 2004, eight such intensive revisions were carried out — and now, after many years, this exercise is being revived to ensure future elections are free from disputes and inaccuracies.
The ECI urges all citizens to actively participate in the SIR process, verify their information, and help build a clean and accurate electoral roll — because every vote counts, and every name matters.
