Kaithal, April 6, 2025 — In a major embarrassment for the Haryana Police, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Kaithal on Friday evening arrested Guhla Police Station In-Charge, Sub-Inspector Rampal, while accepting a bribe of ₹30,000. The officer had allegedly demanded a total of ₹50,000 to dismiss an assault case and had already accepted ₹20,000 earlier, ACB officials confirmed.
The arrest was made during a trap operation led by the ACB team after a complaint was lodged by Omprakash, a resident of Cheeka, who claimed the SHO was pressuring him for a bribe to drop a case filed against him.
ACB Lays Trap, SHO Caught Red-Handed
According to ACB Kaithal In-Charge Subey Singh Saini, the complainant, Omprakash, approached the bureau with evidence of the bribe demand. SHO Rampal had allegedly threatened that the assault case would not be dropped unless ₹50,000 was paid. Despite Omprakash’s claim of financial hardship, the officer allegedly insisted on the payment.
In response, the ACB appointed PWD Executive Engineer Varun Kansal as Duty Magistrate to oversee the sting operation. When Omprakash handed over the remaining ₹30,000 to SHO Rampal, the ACB team immediately moved in and caught the officer red-handed. The full ₹30,000 bribe amount was recovered from the officer on the spot.
Corruption Case Registered, Court Appearance Scheduled
The ACB has registered a case against Sub-Inspector Rampal under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and he is scheduled to be produced in court on Saturday. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local police department, raising serious concerns about corruption at the enforcement level.
Officials have assured that the case will be pursued with zero tolerance, and appropriate disciplinary action will follow based on judicial proceedings.
