In a shocking case of online fraud, Gurugram police arrested a man and his wife for allegedly defrauding multiple buyers by posing as sellers of luxury cars on the classified platform OLX. The couple, both residents of Sector 56, were found to have duped prospective buyers of nearly ₹2 crore by accepting advance payments for vehicles that were never delivered.

The arrests were made following multiple complaints filed with the Gurugram Cyber Crime Cell. According to investigators, the couple would post attractive listings of high-end vehicles at below-market prices, luring unsuspecting buyers with promises of quick delivery. Once the victims transferred funds to the couple’s account, all communication would abruptly cease, and the listings would be taken down.

Police conducted a sting operation after tracing several online transactions to the couple’s bank accounts. During the arrest, law enforcement officials also seized multiple mobile phones, forged documents, and electronic devices used to orchestrate the scam. Authorities believe the couple may be part of a larger fraud network operating across northern India.

The case has once again highlighted the rising menace of cyber-enabled economic crimes, particularly on platforms that lack rigorous verification mechanisms. Officials have urged online buyers to exercise caution, avoid making advance payments, and verify sellers through secure means.

Cybercrime experts have called for regulatory oversight on peer-to-peer marketplaces to prevent such frauds. Meanwhile, the accused have been booked under relevant sections of the IPC and IT Act, and further investigations are underway to identify other victims and potential accomplices.
