The festival of Lohri was celebrated with traditional fervour and deep social meaning in Ladwa, Kurukshetra, where Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini joined local residents to mark the occasion. The celebration, held at Shivala Ram Kundi, brought together people from different walks of life, highlighting the cultural richness and social unity that Lohri represents.
Participating in the rituals along with his wife, Suman Saini, the Chief Minister performed traditional prayers and lit the sacred bonfire, offering til, revri, jaggery, and peanuts as part of the customary observance. Former minister Subhash Sudha was also present during the event, which saw enthusiastic participation from the local community.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister described Lohri as a symbol of India’s rich cultural heritage and living traditions. He said such festivals are not merely celebrations but powerful reminders of shared values, collective joy, and social harmony. According to him, Lohri connects people with their roots and reinforces the importance of preserving traditions even as society embraces modernity.
He emphasised that the younger generation must understand that cultural traditions are not outdated practices but guiding forces that shape present and future values. Celebrations like Lohri, he said, promote love, brotherhood, and unity, strengthening the social fabric of the nation.
The Chief Minister also recalled the historical significance of Lohri, particularly the legacy of Dulla Bhatti, who is remembered for protecting women during the Mughal era. He said remembering such figures during festivals gives deeper meaning to celebrations and reinforces values of courage, compassion, and social responsibility.
