With the Punjab Assembly elections scheduled for 2027, political activity in the state has begun to intensify well in advance. All major political players, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Congress, and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, are gradually positioning themselves for what is expected to be a fiercely contested battle. In this evolving political landscape, the increasing presence of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini in Punjab is being seen as a strategic move that sets the tone for BJP’s long-term electoral preparations in the state.
Addressing a public meeting at Samrala in Ludhiana district on Sunday, Mr. Saini launched a sharp political attack on the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government, questioning its governance record and political intent. He said that the country and Punjab, in particular, need experienced, responsible leadership that works in public interest rather than treating politics merely as a route to power.
According to Mr. Saini, politics should be rooted in service, sacrifice, and accountability, values deeply embedded in Punjab’s Guru tradition. He urged people to reject what he described as the politics of falsehood and injustice and instead support governance based on honesty, development, and national interest. Drawing comparisons, he asserted that the governance model implemented in Haryana could serve as a foundation for effective administration across the country.
The Haryana Chief Minister said that both the previous Congress government in Punjab and the current Aam Aadmi Party government have failed to fulfil their electoral promises. In contrast, he claimed that Haryana’s double-engine government made 217 commitments during the Assembly elections and delivered on 54 of them within the first year itself. He said governance should be measured not by slogans but by tangible outcomes visible on the ground.
Mr. Saini also questioned the Punjab government’s response to recent flood damage, particularly compensation for livestock losses. He challenged the state government to disclose how much relief had been provided to affected farmers. He pointed out that in Haryana, farmers were compensated for crop damage, livestock loss, and housing damage during natural calamities.
Taking a direct swipe at AAP leaders, Mr. Saini accused them of making contradictory and misleading claims. He said Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann speaks of compensation of ₹20,000 per acre for crop loss, while AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal claims in other states that compensation of ₹50,000 per acre has been given. Such statements, he alleged, expose the lack of seriousness and credibility of the ruling party.
Highlighting Haryana’s record, Mr. Saini said ₹1,400 crore was transferred directly to farmers under the Price Difference Compensation Scheme, and over the past 11 years, farmers received ₹15,500 crore as crop damage compensation. He demanded that Punjab’s leadership clearly state how much financial relief farmers received during their tenure.
As elections draw closer, Mr. Saini’s remarks underline BJP’s attempt to position Haryana’s governance as a benchmark while questioning AAP’s political credibility in Punjab. His frequent visits and pointed criticism indicate that Punjab has emerged as a key political focus for the BJP well ahead of the 2027 polls.
