The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) on Wednesday declared the Class XII examination results, recording an overall pass percentage of 91.46 per cent. This year’s results once again highlighted the strong performance of girl students, who outperformed boys by a significant margin across the state.

Among the top achievers, Supneet Kaur, a 16-year-old student of Gurukul Academy Public Senior Secondary School in Ubha village of Mansa district, secured the first position in the state. She achieved a perfect score of 500 out of 500 marks in the science stream, bringing pride to both her school and district.

The second and third positions were secured by students from Ludhiana district. Suhani Chauhan of BCM Senior Secondary School, Jamalpur Colony, Ludhiana, and Diwanshi of Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial Senior Secondary School, Simlapuri, Ludhiana, both scored a perfect 500 out of 500 marks in the humanities stream.

According to official figures released by the board, a total of 2,65,417 students appeared for the Class XII examinations this year. Out of these, 2,42,755 students successfully cleared the exams.

District-wise performance showed that Amritsar emerged as the best-performing district with a pass percentage of 96 per cent. Pathankot followed closely with 95.66 per cent, while SBS Nagar secured the third position with 95.62 per cent.

On the other hand, Ludhiana recorded one of the lowest pass percentages at 87.04 per cent. Muktsar and Fazilka also remained among the lower-performing districts, both registering a pass percentage of 87.64 per cent.

Mohali district recorded an overall pass percentage of 93.86 per cent. Out of 7,775 students who appeared from the district, 7,298 successfully passed the examination. Four girls from Mohali also secured positions in the state merit list.

Patiala district had the highest representation in the merit list with 59 students. Ludhiana followed with 40 students, while Amritsar contributed 27 students to the merit rankings. Malerkotla had only one student in the merit list, whereas no student from Pathankot district could make it to the top 278 positions.

The results also reflected a clear gender gap in performance. Girls registered an impressive pass percentage of 94.73 per cent, significantly ahead of boys, whose pass percentage stood at 88.52 per cent.

The performance gap between urban and rural students remained minimal this year. Urban students recorded a pass percentage of 91.24 per cent, while students from rural areas slightly outperformed them with a pass percentage of 91.63 per cent.

School-wise analysis revealed that non-government schools performed slightly better than government institutions. Private schools recorded a pass percentage of 92.68 per cent, while government schools stood at 91.41 per cent. Aided schools registered a comparatively lower pass percentage of 88.44 per cent.

The board also stated that 17,495 students have been placed in the compartment category in one or more subjects, while 5,109 students failed to clear the annual examinations. Additionally, the results of 58 students have been withheld due to various reasons.

Education experts believe the consistently high performance of girl students and the improving results from rural areas indicate changing educational trends in Punjab. The overall result has been viewed as encouraging, especially considering the large number of students who appeared for the examinations across the state.
