Rajasthan unit targets participation of one lakh leaders and workers as Opposition alliance prepares for major mobilisation at Ramlila Maidan

Jaipur: The Congress has stepped up preparations in Rajasthan for the INDIA bloc’s proposed rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1, with party General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal chairing a high-level organisational meeting in Jaipur to review mobilisation plans and coordinate participation from the state.

The meeting, held at the Constitution Club, focused on ensuring a substantial turnout from Rajasthan for the Opposition alliance’s rally, which organisers aim to make a major show of strength. Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra said the state unit was targeting the participation of at least one lakh party workers and leaders.

Senior Congress leaders Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot, Tikaram Jully, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Vinod Jakhar attended the meeting, along with other party functionaries, co-in-charges, legislators and Members of Parliament. Discussions centred on coordination across organisational levels and preparations to bring party supporters to the national capital.

The proposed rally is expected to focus on the Opposition’s allegations concerning electoral processes and its demand for accountability from the Election Commission. According to the meeting brief, leaders also discussed a demand for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and plans for symbolic public proceedings described by organisers as an impeachment exercise ahead of the march. Such a public event would be symbolic; the formal removal of a Chief Election Commissioner is governed by constitutional procedures.

The INDIA bloc has set a target of drawing around one million people to the Delhi gathering. The Rajasthan Congress leadership is seeking to contribute a significant share of that mobilisation, making organisational coordination and participation key priorities in the run-up to the event.

The Jaipur meeting underlined the Congress’s effort to bring its state-level machinery into the wider Opposition campaign. The scale of participation on November 1 will be an important measure of the alliance’s mobilisation efforts as it seeks to turn its concerns over electoral processes into a nationwide political demonstration.
