Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday said that the world is undergoing an era of unprecedented transformation, with emerging challenges such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, climate change, rising energy demands, the digital economy, global competition, and social inequalities reshaping societies across the globe.
Addressing the inaugural session of the three-day Zone-II Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), India Region, organised under the aegis of the Haryana Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister said that administrative decisions alone cannot address these complex challenges. He emphasized that public awareness, active social participation, and effective legislative leadership are equally essential to finding sustainable solutions.
The conference was inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in the presence of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan, Deputy Speaker Dr. Krishan Middha, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mahipal Dhanda. Presiding officers, deputy presiding officers, and legislators from 15 legislatures across the country are participating in the event.
A special documentary showcasing Haryana’s history and development journey was also screened during the inaugural session.
Welcoming the delegates, Chief Minister Saini described the conference as a matter of pride for Haryana. He said the Assembly building itself represents a living legacy of democracy, having witnessed six decades of debates, public aspirations, policy discussions, and historic decisions that have shaped the state’s progress.
Reflecting on Haryana’s journey since its formation in 1966, Saini said the state had overcome numerous challenges despite limited resources. He remarked that the people of Haryana have always demonstrated resilience and determination, transforming obstacles into opportunities for growth.
He noted that Haryana has consistently played a leading role in nation-building, making significant contributions in sectors such as agriculture, sports, defence, industry, and social development.
Speaking on the conference theme, “Role of an Aware Society and Legislators in Addressing Future Challenges and Realising the Vision of Viksit Bharat,” the Chief Minister said the subject is highly relevant in today’s rapidly changing world.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047 is not merely a government objective but a national mission that seeks to channel the aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians. Achieving this goal, he added, requires collective efforts from governments, lawmakers, civil society, and citizens alike.
Saini stressed that policy decisions and governance frameworks must be designed to ensure that the benefits of development reach the last person in society. He said the vision of a developed India goes beyond economic prosperity and includes self-reliance, equal opportunities for all citizens, leadership in technology and innovation, environmental responsibility, social justice, and a strong commitment to democratic values.
He expressed confidence that discussions during the conference would contribute meaningful ideas and strategies for addressing future challenges and accelerating India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
