The Haryana government has significantly expanded its focus on women’s welfare, introducing a range of initiatives aimed at education, financial security, social participation, and self-reliance. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that empowering women is central to the state’s vision of inclusive and sustainable development.
One of the flagship initiatives is the Deendayal Lado Laxmi Yojana, under which eligible women receive financial assistance of ₹2,100. So far, more than seven lakh women have benefited from the scheme, with the government disbursing ₹260 crore in two instalments. The scheme aims to provide economic support and strengthen financial independence among women from weaker sections.
In addition to direct financial assistance, the government has taken steps to ease household burdens. Nearly 14.7 lakh families are receiving cooking gas cylinders at a subsidised rate of ₹500 per month, offering relief to women who manage household kitchens.
Education has been another major focus area. Out of 81 colleges opened across the state, 31 are exclusively for girls. Female students are being provided free education up to the postgraduate level, a move aimed at improving enrolment, retention, and career opportunities for young women.
The government has also set an ambitious goal of creating five lakh “Lakhpati Didis” by supporting women-led self-help groups and livelihood initiatives. More than 2.34 lakh women have already achieved this milestone. Under the Drone Didi initiative, women are being trained in drone operations, with 100 women having received free drones and professional training so far.
To promote cultural participation and social engagement, women’s cultural centres are being established across Haryana. A total of 203 such centres have already been set up, providing spaces for women to engage in music, dance, devotional activities, and community interaction.
The Chief Minister said these initiatives reflect the government’s belief that women are not dependents but equal partners in development. With sustained policy support and social participation, he said, Haryana is steadily moving toward a future where women are empowered, respected, and central to the state’s progress.
