In a major push towards strengthening Haryana’s agricultural infrastructure and future resource planning, Nayab Singh Saini chaired a high-level review meeting with senior officials to discuss grain storage capacity, water supply management in Palwal and Nuh districts, and large-scale plantation initiatives across the state.
The meeting, held at the Haryana Civil Secretariat, reflected the state government’s growing focus on safeguarding farmers’ produce, improving logistics infrastructure and ensuring sustainable development in rapidly expanding regions of Haryana. Senior officials from multiple departments, including Agriculture and Public Health Engineering, participated in the discussions along with Shyam Singh Rana.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister stressed that Haryana’s farmers work tirelessly to achieve record food grain production and therefore it is the government’s responsibility to ensure safe and modern storage facilities for their produce. Emphasizing the need to prevent post-harvest losses, Saini directed officials to prepare a detailed plan for the construction of a large modern silo between Shahbad and Ambala.
According to the Chief Minister, the proposed silo should be strategically located between a railway corridor and a major road network to ensure seamless and cost-effective transportation connectivity across the country. He instructed the concerned departments to identify and acquire up to 100 acres of land for the project and complete the planning process within one month. The initiative is being viewed as a significant step towards modernizing Haryana’s warehousing ecosystem and strengthening food security infrastructure.
Saini noted that with rising agricultural output, traditional storage systems alone are no longer sufficient. He emphasized that scientifically managed silos and modern warehouses would help reduce grain spoilage, improve supply chain efficiency and provide better support to procurement operations.
The Chief Minister also focused on the horticulture sector and asked the Haryana Warehousing Corporation to prepare a separate action plan for establishing a large warehouse or silo near Hisar Airport. He observed that ongoing geopolitical developments and increased demand for fruits and vegetables in Middle Eastern markets have created new export opportunities for Haryana’s farmers.
According to Saini, a modern cold storage and warehousing facility near the airport could facilitate the safe storage and rapid export of fresh produce to international markets through air connectivity. He said such an initiative would enable vegetable and fruit growers in Haryana to secure better prices for their produce and strengthen the state’s agri-export economy.
Apart from agricultural infrastructure, the meeting also reviewed drinking water arrangements in the Palwal and Nuh regions. Officials from the Public Health Engineering Department informed the Chief Minister that drinking water supply in 108 villages and the Punhana town currently depends largely on tube wells. To improve groundwater recharge and strengthen the water supply system, the department has proposed the construction of seven radial wells and boosting stations at an estimated cost of ₹765 crore.
The Chief Minister, however, stressed the importance of developing canal-based water supply systems alongside groundwater resources. He pointed out that Nuh and Palwal are expected to witness industrial expansion in the coming years, which will significantly increase water demand in the region. Saini instructed officials to prepare long-term plans to ensure sustainable water availability for both residential and industrial needs.
Environmental sustainability also figured prominently during the discussions. Keeping the upcoming monsoon season in mind, the Chief Minister directed officials to intensify plantation drives across Haryana under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. He said large-scale tree plantation should begin immediately to expand the state’s green cover and improve ecological balance.
Saini also instructed departments to ensure proper protection and maintenance of planted saplings by installing tree guards and arranging regular watering so that the plants survive and grow into fully developed trees. He emphasized that plantation campaigns should not remain symbolic exercises but should produce long-term environmental benefits for future generations.
Senior officials present in the meeting included Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Rajesh Khullar, Additional Chief Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Vijai Vardhan Kumar, Commissioner and Secretary of Public Health Engineering J. Ganeshan, and Haryana Warehousing Corporation Managing Director Dr. Shaleen, among others.
The meeting highlighted the Haryana government’s integrated approach towards agriculture, infrastructure, water conservation and environmental sustainability. The proposed projects are expected to not only strengthen rural and agricultural economies but also position Haryana as a more efficient and future-ready state in terms of food storage, export logistics and resource management.
