In a major development in the case surrounding the death of Haryana ADGP and IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, the officer’s family has finally agreed to a post-mortem — nine days after his tragic demise shook the state’s police and political establishment.

According to official sources, the post-mortem examination will be conducted on Wednesday morning at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Chandigarh, under strict supervision and as per legal procedures. Senior police officials, including Inspector General Pushpender Singh, have reached PGI to oversee the formalities related to the autopsy.

Family members, who had earlier refused to allow the post-mortem until an FIR was registered against those named in the ADGP’s suicide note, gave their consent late Tuesday night following multiple rounds of dialogue with top government and police representatives.

The decision marks a significant turn in a case that has already triggered statewide protests, administrative turbulence, and political debate over accountability within the Haryana Police.

As per reports, the cremation is scheduled for around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, after completion of the post-mortem and related legal procedures.

The officer’s wife, IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, had earlier demanded a fair and transparent investigation, alleging that her husband had named senior officers responsible for his mental harassment in an eight-page note before taking the extreme step.

The development brings a crucial procedural step closer to closure in what has become one of Haryana’s most sensitive and high-profile cases in recent years, as questions over institutional integrity, workplace harassment, and justice continue to dominate public discourse.
