Haryana Pays Tearful Tribute as Navy Officer Vinay Narwal Laid to Rest with Full Military Honours

0

In a solemn yet patriotic farewell echoing with chants of Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Lieutenant Vinay Narwal of the Indian Navy, who lost his life in a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, was cremated with full military honours in Karnal’s Shivpuri locality on Wednesday. The heart-wrenching ceremony was attended by a sea of mourners, including Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who paid his last respects to the fallen hero and stood firmly with the bereaved family, offering both condolences and assurance of state support.

The air in Shivpuri was heavy with grief, yet filled with pride as the tricolour-draped coffin of Lt. Narwal was escorted by uniformed personnel for his final rites. As Navy personnel presented a military salute, the community gathered in strength to honour the sacrifice of a brave son of the soil whose life was claimed in a cowardly act of terror that shocked the nation. CM Nayab Singh Saini, along with Speaker of the Haryana Assembly Harvinder Kalyan, MLAs Jagmohan Anand and Yogendra Rana, BJP State President Mohan Lal Badoli, and representatives from various political, religious, and social organisations, joined hands in this collective expression of national mourning and solidarity.

Speaking at the funeral, CM Saini strongly condemned the attack, calling it a cowardly and inhumane assault on both an individual and the ideals of humanity. He vowed that those responsible would not be spared and promised the strongest possible action against the perpetrators. “This is not just a loss for the family or for Haryana, but a loss for the entire country,” said the Chief Minister. “Lt. Vinay Narwal was a brave warrior, and his sacrifice will not go in vain. The government, both at the state and central levels, stands shoulder to shoulder with the grieving family.”

He further assured the people that strict steps are being taken to identify and bring the attackers to justice. The Chief Minister also invoked divine blessings for Lt. Narwal’s soul, praying that the Supreme Power grant him peace and strength to the family to endure this irreplaceable loss. Emphasizing the values of service and sacrifice that the young officer represented, Saini reaffirmed the Haryana government’s unwavering support to his kin, underlining that the nation must honour its martyrs not just in words but through lasting commitment and justice.

The poignant funeral ceremony became a powerful reminder of the cost paid by India’s armed forces to safeguard national integrity and peace. As floral tributes adorned the funeral pyre and gun salutes cracked the sky, a wave of sorrow and patriotism swept through the crowd. The state of Haryana stood united in mourning, even as it strengthened its resolve against terrorism.

Lieutenant Vinay Narwal’s martyrdom has stirred a deep sense of national grief and collective responsibility. His sacrifice, remembered with pride and reverence, has brought forth renewed calls for robust action against forces that continue to challenge the country’s internal security. As the flames consumed the pyre, the resolve of a grateful state and nation burned brighter than ever—to protect, to honour, and to never forget.

‘Braking the Tragedy’: Punjab’s Groundbreaking Campaign to Save Farmers from Road Accidents

0

In a significant stride toward transforming rural road safety, Punjab has launched an ambitious awareness campaign titled ‘I Am a Safety Hero’, aiming to drastically cut down the number of tragic accidents involving agricultural vehicles, especially tractor-trolleys. The campaign, launched at the Punjab Police Headquarters, reflects a proactive move by the state police in collaboration with Yara India, under the determined leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The Traffic and Road Safety Wing of Punjab Police is steering this effort with direction from Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, showcasing a fresh emphasis on saving lives through education and empowerment.

At the heart of the initiative lies a sobering reality: from 2017 to 2022, over 2,000 accidents involving tractor-trolleys were reported in Punjab, leading to more than 1,500 deaths—many of whom were farmers. These incidents account for nearly six percent of the state’s total road fatalities, making it clear that rural transportation safety is not just a concern but an emergency. It is this stark backdrop that prompted the state to act with urgency, foresight, and collaboration.

Additional Director General of Police (Traffic and Road Safety) AS Rai, while launching the campaign, emphasized that road safety is not merely about enforcement—it is about education, behavioral change, and a culture of responsibility. He described the campaign as a collective mission that brings together law enforcement, industry partners, and the rural community in an unprecedented alliance to create safer roads. The centerpiece of the campaign is the distribution of reflective safety stickers for tractor-trolleys and specially crafted educational materials designed to inform and inspire change across Punjab’s farmlands.

The campaign will first roll out through a three-day Model Farmers’ Awareness Camp in Khanna Mandi, Asia’s largest grain market. Designed as an interactive experience, the camp will feature air-cooled awareness booths, classroom-style sessions, live demonstrations, street plays, and safety gear distribution. This multi-sensory approach ensures that the message of safety reaches deeply into the hearts and habits of farmers, mandi workers, and rural transporters. Senior Superintendent of Police Jyoti Yadav will inaugurate the camp, which is set to lay the foundation for similar drives across other districts.

What sets this campaign apart is its commitment to long-term engagement rather than short-term fixes. Materials are being disseminated through the Traffic and Road Safety Education Cells in every district and Commissionerate. This decentralized and participatory model ensures the campaign does not end with Khanna—it begins there. According to Dr. Navdeep Asija, Director of the Punjab Road Safety and Traffic Research Center, the goal is to replicate and expand the model throughout rural Punjab, encouraging local ownership of road safety norms.

Sanjiv Kanwar, Managing Director of Yara South Asia, reinforced his company’s commitment to the safety and well-being of the farming community. He highlighted that the initiative is about delivering life-saving knowledge directly to those most at risk and doing so in a manner that builds trust and promotes sustained change. Yara’s partnership with Punjab Police marks a unique blend of corporate social responsibility and grassroots outreach, bringing meaningful action to the fields.

The campaign is designed to build up to the World Day for Safety and Health at Work on April 28, but its legacy will extend well beyond that. Following the initial awareness blitz, a state-wide campaign will be rolled out across schools, mandis, and high-risk rural routes. It will include regular monitoring, refresher sessions, and interactive educational tools aimed at embedding road safety into everyday rural life.

‘I Am a Safety Hero’ is more than a slogan—it is a movement. It calls on farmers to be the first line of defense against preventable deaths. It encourages a mindset shift from reaction to prevention, from isolation to community action. In every reflective sticker applied to a tractor, in every street play performed in a dusty mandi, Punjab is scripting a new chapter—one where rural progress no longer comes at the cost of rural lives.

Punjab’s Relentless Drug Crackdown Marks 54 Days: Over 7,000 Smugglers Nabbed Under CM Mann’s War on Narcotics

0

Punjab’s sweeping campaign against drug abuse, “Yudh Nashian Virudh,” continues to gain momentum under the decisive leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. On its 54th day, the anti-narcotics drive has not only intensified but has also set a precedent in the state’s law enforcement history. A total of 104 drug smugglers were apprehended on Wednesday alone, adding to a staggering cumulative arrest count of 7,187 individuals since the operation began. Simultaneously, police recovered 3.4 kilograms of heroin, 1,671 kilograms of poppy husk, and drug money amounting to ₹8.3 lakh—clear evidence of the scale and seriousness of the campaign.

This extensive operation, executed under the guidance of Punjab’s Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, covered all 28 police districts across the state. Coordinated and well-planned, the day’s raids were part of a statewide crackdown that engaged over 150 police teams. These teams, comprising more than 1,200 personnel and 80 senior officers, conducted searches at 422 locations, ensuring that no corner of the state remains untouched in this battle against narcotics.

The campaign is being monitored at the highest levels of government. CM Mann has not only issued firm directives to district police chiefs and commissioners but has also established a dedicated Cabinet Sub Committee to oversee the effort. This five-member panel, led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, is tasked with ensuring the continuity and effectiveness of this anti-drug crusade.

The operation reflects a robust three-pronged strategy built on Enforcement, Deaddiction, and Prevention. According to Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla, the strategy is yielding results beyond arrests. He revealed that five individuals caught during the operation were persuaded to seek de-addiction treatment, marking a significant shift from punitive action to rehabilitative support. This holistic approach underscores the administration’s commitment to not just eliminate the drug supply chain but also to restore affected individuals to health and dignity.

Alongside on-ground arrests and raids, the crackdown also targeted pharmaceutical outlets, a vital yet often overlooked link in the drug distribution chain. Police teams conducted thorough inspections at 389 medical shops across districts such as Amritsar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Batala, Amritsar Rural, and Tarn Taran. These checks aimed to ensure that no prescription drugs or habit-forming substances were being sold unlawfully. The emphasis was placed on strict adherence to norms governing the sale of controlled medicines, signaling zero tolerance for any loopholes in the pharmaceutical sector.

The aggressive and consistent approach adopted by Punjab Police reflects a changing tide in the state’s war against drugs. CM Mann has made it clear that making Punjab drug-free is not just an agenda point but a non-negotiable mission. The sweeping scale of arrests, the seizing of narcotics, and the inclusion of de-addiction in law enforcement operations are all indicative of a strategy that blends firmness with empathy.

As the campaign continues, the people of Punjab are witnessing an administration unwilling to waver in its resolve. The scale, consistency, and outcomes of “Yudh Nashian Virudh” have positioned it as one of the most determined anti-drug operations in India today. With sustained action, close monitoring, and community engagement, the state hopes to dismantle the drug menace piece by piece, ultimately restoring safety, health, and hope across its towns and villages.

Punjab Sets Benchmark with Groundbreaking Road Infrastructure Drive under CM Mann

0

In a landmark initiative aimed at transforming rural connectivity and economic mobility, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has launched a comprehensive road infrastructure campaign that marks a first in the state’s history. The ambitious program is centered around the repair and upgradation of over 18,900 kilometers of link roads—lifelines that interweave Punjab’s agrarian heartland with its markets and cities. With an investment of ₹3,459.95 crore, the initiative is being hailed as a turning point in the state’s rural development trajectory.

Unveiling the initiative during the “Sadak Dhaancha Vikas Milni” interactive session held at Tagore Theatre, CM Mann emphasized the strategic importance of high-quality link roads for both mobility and commerce. He pointed out that Punjab has a sprawling network of nearly 64,878 kilometers of such roads, many of which have surpassed their functional lifespan without significant repair. The new campaign, he said, is a direct response to the demands and needs of the rural population—something his administration is closely attuned to.

In a shift from past practices marred by allegations of corruption and substandard work, the current government has instituted a mechanism where the contractors building these roads will also be responsible for their maintenance for five years. This move, according to the Chief Minister, ensures accountability and long-term quality. Mann didn’t hold back while criticizing the earlier regimes, accusing them of allowing corruption to fester in the road construction tendering process. He said that the current dispensation is working to eradicate such practices by keeping transparency and quality at the forefront.

Adding a tech-enabled dimension to the campaign, Mann revealed that Artificial Intelligence has been introduced in the estimation and auditing of road projects—a first for the state. This digital upgrade has already helped the state save over ₹226 crore by identifying over 540 kilometers of roads that existed only on paper. He stressed that future roadworks would only commence after ensuring the completion of sewerage and utility installations, and a Third Party Techno-Financial Audit will serve as a watchdog to guarantee construction integrity.

The state government’s focus on wider roads also came into spotlight, especially the link roads used for mining which have been expanded from 10 to 18 feet. A separate allocation of ₹266.27 crore has been approved for this purpose, covering nearly 390 kilometers. These upgraded roads are expected to streamline transportation for both commercial and civilian purposes.

Despite its progressive strides, the state is grappling with financial hurdles. CM Mann lamented the withholding of ₹6,857 crore by the Union government under the Rural Development Fund, attributing the roadblock to the fiscal mismanagement by previous administrations. Additionally, the reduction in the Market Development Fee from 3% to 2% by the central government is also expected to impact the state’s financial planning for agriculture-linked infrastructure.

Nonetheless, the Chief Minister highlighted several achievements his administration has made in other sectors, which underscore a broader commitment to holistic governance. He mentioned that the use of canal water for irrigation has significantly increased—from 21% to 75%, with a target to reach 80%. Furthermore, over 15,947 water courses have been rejuvenated to ensure water reaches the remotest villages, an effort aimed at making agriculture more sustainable.

In education and healthcare, too, Punjab is witnessing a quiet revolution. Mann claimed that government schools are being overhauled to the extent that choosing them would soon become a matter of preference, not compulsion. He also spotlighted the creation of the state’s first dedicated “Sadak Surakhya Force,” a road safety initiative that has already shown results—a 48.10% decline in road accident fatalities since its launch last February. The force comprises over 1,500 freshly recruited, specially trained personnel, including women, equipped with state-of-the-art vehicles, and is already being studied as a model by other states and the central government.

Through this far-reaching program, Punjab under Bhagwant Singh Mann is not only reshaping its physical landscape but is also signaling a deeper commitment to inclusive growth and grassroots governance. The scale, transparency, and technological integration of this road infrastructure initiative set a new benchmark not just for the state, but for the country as a whole.

CM Sukhu Flags Transit Pass Misuse, Vows Stronger Mechanism to Curb Mineral Royalty Leakages

0

In a move aimed at safeguarding state revenues and ensuring the uninterrupted pace of development across Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has issued strict directions to curb the misuse of transit passes in mineral transportation. Chairing a high-level review meeting of the Industries Department in Shimla, the Chief Minister expressed deep concern over reports indicating that fake transit passes were being used repeatedly to illegally ferry minerals, causing substantial losses to the state exchequer.

Highlighting the gravity of the issue, CM Sukhu stated that such fraudulent practices not only undermine the state’s financial health but also delay crucial infrastructure projects which depend on timely and transparent mineral supply. While the Himachal Pradesh government had earlier notified Rule 81A to impose financial deductions in cases where valid transit passes are not furnished, the enforcement of this rule is presently under judicial stay. The rule proposed a deduction of ₹80 as royalty and ₹20 as penalty per tonne from executing agencies, including Panchayati Raj Institutions, if minerals were transported without proper documentation.

With the implementation of Rule 81A awaiting legal clarity and scheduled for hearing in the High Court on April 25, the Chief Minister has now instructed the Industries Department to actively examine all viable alternatives that could be deployed to plug these leakages and keep development works on track. “This is not just a revenue issue—it’s about administrative accountability and safeguarding the state’s developmental momentum,” he asserted.

The seriousness of the matter was underscored by the presence of senior functionaries and legal experts during the meeting, including Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, Additional Chief Secretary K.K. Pant, Advocate General Anup Rattan, Secretary Law Sharad Kumar Lagwal, and Director Industries Dr. Yunus. Also in attendance were OSD to the Chief Minister Gopal Sharma and other senior officials, highlighting the coordinated push towards transparency and rule enforcement.

Meanwhile, representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) also met the Chief Minister earlier in the day, urging swift and fair resolution to the issue that has been stalling many grassroots development projects due to uncertainties over royalty and penalty impositions.

The meeting reflects the government’s commitment to rooting out inefficiencies and corrupt practices in the system while reinforcing mechanisms that ensure accountability, especially in sectors as sensitive and critical as natural resource management. With Himachal Pradesh relying heavily on minerals for infrastructure, roads, and rural development, a transparent and technology-backed system of transit monitoring is likely to be the next step in this direction.

As the court proceedings progress and new policy measures take shape, all eyes remain on how the state administration, under CM Sukhu’s leadership, navigates this challenge to reinforce integrity in governance and accelerate sustainable development across the hilly terrains of Himachal.

Amit Shah Takes Command as Terror Strikes Pahalgam: Emergency Response in Full Swing After Attack on Tourists

0

Saptrishi Soni: As the tranquil meadows of Baisaran in Pahalgam turned into a theatre of tragedy, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stepped to the frontlines of India’s emergency response apparatus, orchestrating a swift and resolute counter to one of the most chilling terror strikes the region has witnessed in recent years. In a day marked by horror and heartbreak, Shah emerged as the central figure navigating the complex web of security, intelligence, and coordination with both state and national agencies.

Soon after terrorists, reportedly in camouflage, opened fire on unsuspecting tourists in the upper reaches of Baisaran — a remote, idyllic grassland only reachable by foot or horseback — the Prime Minister was briefed. In a prompt call from abroad, Narendra Modi instructed Amit Shah to not only assess the situation firsthand but also to take complete charge of the response mechanism. The Home Minister, in turn, immediately convened a high-level emergency meeting at his Delhi residence, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

Present at the meeting were key figures in India’s security and intelligence framework — Intelligence Bureau Chief Tapan Deka and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan were physically in attendance, while the Director General of CRPF, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat, and Army officials joined through video conferencing. The meeting laid the groundwork for an integrated and aggressive anti-terror operation, now underway in the rugged terrain of South Kashmir.

Shortly after the briefing, Shah spoke with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Both were assured of the Centre’s full support, with Shah emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. “The perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack will have to pay a very heavy price for their heinous act,” said Sinha, echoing the Centre’s uncompromising stance. Shah, meanwhile, is expected to reach Srinagar shortly, where he will hold an urgent review meeting with all central and state security agencies, including the Indian Army and paramilitary forces.

Military helicopters have already been deployed for evacuation and rapid response in the inaccessible meadow where the attack took place. Preliminary reports suggest that the attackers knew the terrain well and may have used the remote location to their advantage, catching both civilians and local authorities off guard. With a targeted style of execution, the ambush sent shockwaves across the country, raising fresh concerns about the evolving nature of terror tactics in the Valley.

What stands out starkly, however, is the speed and decisiveness with which the Home Minister has mobilized India’s counter-terror infrastructure. As images of injured tourists being airlifted and locals rushing to aid the wounded began to flood social media, Shah’s office continued to coordinate every layer of the unfolding crisis. This high-alert security response, characterized by swift decision-making and inter-agency cooperation, has served as both a countermeasure and a message — that India’s political and military leadership is prepared to respond with clarity and conviction.

The timing of the attack, taking place during an important diplomatic window with US Vice President J.D. Vance currently in India, further complicates the geopolitical calculus. Yet, amidst the diplomatic sensitivities and national outrage, Shah’s leadership has positioned itself as a pillar of stability in a moment of deep unrest. His upcoming presence in Srinagar is being seen as more than a symbolic gesture; it signals a hands-on approach that transcends bureaucratic routine.

With the country still reeling from the sheer brutality of the attack, Amit Shah’s central role in managing the crisis underscores not only the gravity of the threat but also the seriousness with which the government is responding. From coordinating intelligence, reviewing operational readiness, to ensuring that the victims receive the necessary aid and support, the Home Minister’s presence on the ground is expected to galvanize both policy and action.

Pahalgam Terror Attack: Over 20 Feared Dead, Dozens Injured as Gunmen Target Tourists in Kashmir’s Baisaran Valley

Terror Returns to Kashmir: Pahalgam Attack Shocks Nation, Evokes Global Condemnation

In a harrowing reminder of the volatility that still shadows Kashmir’s serene landscapes, terror reared its head again in the picturesque tourist hub of Pahalgam. Armed terrorists stormed Baisaran — a lush alpine meadow fondly called ‘mini Switzerland’ — around 3 pm, indiscriminately opening fire on unsuspecting civilians, mostly tourists, who had gathered for pony rides, picnics, and treks. The death toll is feared to be over 20, though officials are still working to ascertain the exact number of casualties. Eyewitnesses and survivors described a scene of chaos and carnage as bullets ripped through the peaceful surroundings, transforming a day of leisure into one of terror and tragedy.

The Jammu and Kashmir government confirmed that this is one of the deadliest civilian-targeted attacks in the region in recent memory. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, visibly shaken, acknowledged the magnitude of the tragedy, calling it “much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years.” As the news spread, condolences poured in from across the political spectrum, but there was also an unmistakable undercurrent of anger and resolve.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a diplomatic visit to Saudi Arabia, was quick to respond. In a strongly worded statement posted on social media, he condemned the attack, expressed condolences to the families of the victims, and assured the nation that those responsible would be brought to justice. “Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will only grow stronger,” he said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who immediately briefed the Prime Minister, announced his departure to Srinagar to oversee a high-level security review. “We will come down heavily on the perpetrators with the harshest consequences,” he wrote in a post, echoing the sentiment of a nation stunned by the audacity of an attack on innocent visitors.

The shocking assault took place as US Vice President J.D. Vance is visiting India, raising concerns about the timing and intended symbolism behind the terror strike. Officials are also investigating the security lapses that allowed armed militants to penetrate a popular and relatively secure tourist destination, located merely a few kilometers from the Pahalgam town center.

The horror unfolded quickly. As gunshots rang out across the meadow, panic set in. Tourists ran in all directions, some screaming, others falling. “There was no place to hide. It was an open field,” said a woman tourist who survived the attack. Another, whose husband was shot in the head, described a scene of utter helplessness as she pleaded for help over the phone. Videos circulating online showed bodies strewn across the grass, terrified children clinging to crying adults, and a silence that quickly engulfed a place known for its natural beauty.

National Conference MLA Altaf Ahmad Wani condemned the attackers as “cowardly and inhuman,” while underscoring that the violence goes against the very spirit of Islam. “This was not just an attack on individuals, it was an attack on the soul of Kashmir,” he said, standing at the site with rescue workers and locals.

The attack caught authorities off guard, particularly because Baisaran is typically accessed by ponies and trekkers, making it an unlikely site for an ambush of this scale. But the choice of target — civilians, including women and children — indicates a deliberate strategy to spread fear and draw attention to extremist causes. Army personnel, CRPF units, and local police responded swiftly, cordoning off the entire area and launching a massive manhunt. Helicopters were deployed to airlift the seriously injured, while locals helped transport victims on ponies, braving the risk of a second wave of violence.

The Army and police have initiated a search operation across the surrounding forests and highlands. So far, no terror group has claimed responsibility, but intelligence agencies are sifting through leads and suspect networks that may have aided the attackers. Pahalgam, which was buzzing with tourists in the morning, now stands deserted, its streets empty, hotels shuttered, and the air heavy with sorrow and uncertainty.

The attack is reminiscent of the 2019 Pulwama suicide bombing that killed 47 CRPF personnel — and it rekindles painful memories for a region struggling to move beyond the shadows of past violence. The global community is also taking note, especially as India reasserts its diplomatic and security standing on international platforms.

As the nation grieves, the government’s message is clear: the perpetrators of this brutality will face swift and unforgiving justice. But beyond military retaliation, this latest tragedy calls for a renewed examination of the region’s fragile peace, the security apparatus, and the need to shield innocent civilians from becoming pawns in a larger geopolitical game.
